Session 20: What the Moon Made
Area: Vallaki — Blue Water Inn
The Howling
Sometime in the night the howling started. Distant at first, then closer, then close enough to resolve into something with direction. Logi woke Taara and Khione.
Taara was still drunk. The wine from the previous evening had not finished with her.
Something about the sound — or some awareness that arrived without explanation — made clear that Myra was in danger. They moved into the hallway.
The Hallway
Myra was already there. She was not Myra.
The werewolf in the hallway was large and fast and did not recognize the people in front of it in any way that mattered. Logi was closest. The confrontation was immediate.
Corvin moved to restrain her — his armor closing around her form, an attempt to contain what was happening. The contact did not help. Whatever the armor carried with it, it seemed to lend her strength rather than take it. She came free harder than she had been before.
Logi put her through the window.
The sound of it carried across town — glass and wood and the impact of a body against the cobblestones below. Loud enough to be heard. Loud enough to answer.
The howling outside shifted. The wolves had heard it. They turned toward the inn.
The Ravens
Taara went back into the room. Logi moved for the stairs.
Ravens came through the broken window — several at once, fast and deliberate. They landed and did not stay ravens. The shapes that unfolded from them were the Martikovs and the others the party had spoken with the night before: the Keepers of the Feather, the wereravens, the resistance. They had heard the sound too and they knew what it meant.
The Defense
Taara and Khione descended from the upper floor. Below, Myra and Logi were already fighting — Myra still transformed, the wolves from outside beginning to press in through the ground floor.
The wereravens and the party moved to meet it.
What Actually Happened
Vess fled the inn when Myra transformed. She did not return, and in the chaos no one saw where she went. Strahd captured her the following day — a fact the party would not learn until Castle Ravenloft (session 23).
